Our cats and dogs are more than just pets—they’re family. Through the Companions in Crisis (CIC) Program, FETCH a Cure strives to give our furry companions more quality time with us following a cancer diagnosis. The program provides financial assistance to help families pay for life-saving cancer treatments, giving them a sense of hope during this difficult time. Whether it be two months or two years, being able to make new memories with your pet is something to be cherished.
The Hannah Hershey Fund is dedicated to extending the CIC program to pets and their owners in the NOVA area. Started by Amy Hershey and Heath Croll in honor of their beloved dog, Hannah, this fund will help expand the positive reach of the CIC program, saving animal lives in the process.
German Shepherd, Hannah Hershey, was diagnosed with Stage 5 T-cell Lymphoma in 2013 at the age of 8. The average remission time was estimated at 10 months. However, considering the severity and progression of her illness by the time the diagnosis was made, the remission time was a very guarded estimate. Miraculously, Hannah’s remission time lasted 4 ½ years! She beat cancer and lived to be 13 years old.
As Hannah aged, she also experienced heart health issues, arthritis and neurological disease. Despite all of this, she was a happy, active and loving dog until the end. Every single vet that met Hannah agreed that she was a “miracle dog” and that they had never seen such a survivor.
Due to Amy and Heath’s ability to fund all of Hannah’s care and treatment, she was given a second chance at life and was able to thrive for much longer than what was originally expected. They want everyone to have the opportunity to spend more quality time with their pets, and believe that no family should be denied the opportunity to fight cancer. That’s why they are excited to create the Hannah Hershey Fund in their beloved dog’s honor.
