FETCH a Cure’s Pixie’s Pen Pals is a unique program that enriches the lives of homeless dogs and incarcerated men and women.

With the guidance of canine-training professionals, inmates living in Virginia correctional facilities socialize, train, and provide around-the-clock care for rescue dogs from local shelters before they are adopted by their forever home.

This program reduces overcrowding in shelters, improves chances for adoption, provides valuable professional and life skills for incarcerated men and women, and promotes rehabilitation for inmates.

The Pen Pals program has a lot of moving parts, and we always need assistance from dog lovers around Virginia!  Common volunteering opportunities we’ll discuss include:

  • transporting Pen Pals pups and supplies
  • handling dogs at events and adoption fairs
  • providing in-home foster care and evaluating behavior
  • performing home visits with potential adopters
